Experiência fantástica: When I first planned my trip to Portugal, I knew I needed to catch up on dental work I had been putting off — first through COVID, then after moving somewhere with limited dental availability. I understood that Portugal offered modern and affordable dental care and although it was somewhat outside of my comfort zone to receive medical care abroad, I'm very grateful to have made that leap. After doing my research, I found Marta’s practice after thoroughly reviewing my options. Since my first visit, in November 2025, I’ve received comprehensive care that has exceeded every expectation — at a fraction of what I’d pay in the United States. My first visit included a full set of upper and lower jaw scans, a dental cleaning (without drilling!), and a consultation. The cleaning alone was beyond comfortable—almost relaxing, modern, and remarkably affordable. I discovered infrared diode or erbium lasers, a modern, non-surgical method that complements traditional scaling to remove bacteria and tartar. I was so impressed, in fact, that when my husband, three children, and sister visited me in Porto, I insisted that each one of them get a cleaning with Marta's team before leaving. Each of them was genuinely wowed — a few of us admitted to how we had always dreaded the dentist until that visit. Months later, I returned for more extensive work: a crown replacement, removal and replacement of older amalgam fillings, and two dental implants. I knew going in that I had significant work ahead of me, and Marta's thoroughness, patience, and commitment to getting it right made every appointment feel safe and reassuring. I truly feel I am in the very best hands. The value is almost hard to believe. Even factoring in airfare and accommodations in Porto — where I also get to enjoy a wonderful city — I still pay far less than I would at home in the States. Thank you to Marta and her warm, gracious team for replacing my amalgam fillings, giving me two strong new implants, and delivering an exceptional standard of care at every step. Her pride in delivering care was obvious from start to end. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. Thank you, team!

Experiência fantástica: I have been a patient at Dr Martha Novais for 2 years now, and I can highly recommend her services. The amount of care and professional knowledge that I experience there is of highest quality. Dr Martha Novais is so lovely, takes her time, listens to her patients and is very thorough. The products used for the dental hygiene are of the highest standard and Dr Luisa, the Dental Hygienist is a real gem. I even fly in from Switzerland to get my treatments, and I gladly do so, as I have never before had such an excellent dental care! The patients can enjoy tooth enamel hardening products, laser treatments for the gums and tongue, the most thorough tartar removal, best polish to leave you with a sparkling smile, additional tooth care education and more. It is of utmost importance to me to take good care of my dental health. I have extremely sensitive teeth and all my needs are taken care of in the best possible manner. The team always accommodates my appointments around my travel schedule. The atmosphere in the dental clinic is very relaxing, including a nice view over a beautiful garden, there is always lovely music playing too ( you can even listen to music of your choice) I hereby thank the whole, wonderful team again and look forward to my next visit. See you again in April/May 2026 ☺️

Experiência fantástica: Very kind staff and excellent dental treatment. This is also the prettiest dentist office I have ever been to - the view from the treatment room is beautiful and relaxing. I lost a filling and Dr Yana was able to see me very quickly, fixing my problem within an hour. The office was also very patient with my minimal Portuguese knowledge and had multiple English speakers available to help me understand all parts of my treatment.

Experiência fantástica: I had a fall on the concrete in Porto and chipped my two front teeth. After visiting the hospital, I found this clinic and was able to get an appointment within an hour. The place was spotless, the staff were lovely, and it was very tourist-friendly. Martha and her assistant worked on my teeth for about an hour and a half, including taking an X-ray to check for any nerve damage. Very fast if I say so myself. They clearly explained every step, regularly checked in to make sure I was comfortable, and gave me a full breakdown of the costs before starting any treatment. My teeth now look as good as new, you can’t even tell they were ever broken. Overall, it was a surprisingly smooth and affordable experience. I highly recommend any tourist with dental problems to visit Martha Novais!

Experiência fantástica: I just went to this clinic and was amazed by how kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable everyone was! I have had an incredible amount of dentist work in many countries and this clinic was by far my best experience. It was clear that they are always keeping the patient experience in mind. The equipment is state of the art and getting to gaze at a green garden with whimsical statues and a Buddha is a relaxing bonus while getting mouth work done. Everyone spoke English and could skillfully use digital tools to communicate more information if necessary. The dentist accurately identified all my dental needs and had helpful tips to keep my teeth healthy and avoid unnecessary procedures until needed. I felt in capable hands and left with a smile on my face. I will definitely be back! Thank you to all, especially Sofia!

Experiência negativa: I had an extremely disappointing dental experience under the treatment of Dr. Martha Novais. I came to the clinic for veneers on four front upper teeth, but the final result was far from what I expected. The veneers were poorly made – with the wrong color, excessive transparency, visible gaps between the teeth, and one veneer that does not fully cover the tooth. These issues were not present with the temporary veneers, which makes the final outcome even more frustrating. The most concerning part is that during the preparation process, Dr. Novais aggressively ground down my teeth without water cooling or anesthesia, which caused severe pain and led to irreversible nerve damage (pulpitis) in one tooth. This procedure was not only extremely painful but also violated basic dental care standards. During the fitting of the ceramic veneers, the dentist did not allow me to raise my head to examine them properly. She reassured me that the veneers would look lighter once cemented with white cement, but in the end, she used transparent cement without informing me or obtaining my consent. I requested documents detailing the veneers' specifications and a video recording made for the laboratory, where I explained my requirements regarding color and transparency. The clinic replied that the video was no longer available because "the server deletes such files every day." To this day, I have not received any documents confirming the veneers' specifications. Despite my continuous complaints of burning and pulsating pain in the area of the tooth root from the day the veneers were placed (03/01/2025), the dentist dismissed my concerns, calling the pain "normal." Only after I insisted on having an X-ray did the doctor agree. The X-ray showed "changes", but the dentist was unable to explain the cause, make a diagnosis, or propose any reasonable treatment – apart from prescribing Ibuprofen. For this consultation, the clinic charged me €80. Subsequent consultations with independent dentists confirmed that I had nerve necrosis caused by the clinic’s failure to follow standard protocols when preparing teeth for veneers. Now I am forced to undergo root canal treatment at another clinic to save the damaged tooth. Additionally, the clinic provided irregular invoices with missing service dates, incorrect charges, and treatments that were never performed. When I repeatedly requested invoices, I initially received only a photo of a medical history extract for €3,535, even though I had paid €4,901 in total. Only after an official request did the clinic send invoices, but without specifying service dates, treated teeth, or proper descriptions. The €80 whitening gel I had purchased was not listed, but the final amount conveniently matched the total I paid. I have never encountered such a situation, where a doctor completely ignores her patients' suffering and refuses to take responsibility for their mistakes.

The first time for just a cleaning and the second time for both and examination of my teeth and a cleaning. Both visits were amazing. The office itself is very beautiful clean and pleasant. I sat in a dental chair and looked out on a beautiful garden. The staff are extremely helpful and kind. Dr. Marta focuses on preventative care and uses organic products. My teeth are sensitive and cleanings are done with water so it is not painful and is extremely thorough. She uses vitamin treatments to strengthen your gums and teeth and teaches you proper methods for self care of your mouth using the best products

Experiência fantástica: I chipped the enamel off my front crown tooth and happened by Marta's office near my hotel. I hoped Marta would be able to temporarily cement the chip on until I could get back to my home country. She took me in as an emergency after a short wait and did an excellent job of repairing the tooth so that the damage was not even visible. There were no guarantees as she did not know if the enamel chip would even adhere to the metal crown underneath, but two weeks later it is still holding. I am going to my own dentist this week for a permanent repair and I am sure she is going to be very impressed.

I have had 2 professional oral cleaning's done by the wonderful, a very thorough and such a lovely person,Dr Sofia. First time ever when the ultrasound and everything else in this 1 hour treatment was totally painfree,not even a slightest uncomfortable moment.Felt more like a spa treatment and never have my teeth felt so clean and even looked much whiter! All the latest technology was used and I really cant praise enough Dr Sofia's professionalism and kindness. My slight fear for dentists have truly disappeared in this unique dental clinic!

E ao terminar o serviço, foi informada de todos os produtos que me convinha adquirir “dos que a Dra Marta é embaixadora”. Não é para mim. Um dentista desde o meu ponto de vista, deveria limitar-se a fazer o seu trabalho, e não a tentar vender productos aos utentes. Não voltarei. Não gosto este tipo de estabelecimentos.

Experiência negativa: Da man mich bereits nach dem ersten Gespräch immer wieder dazu aufforderte eine Bewertung in meiner Sprache zu schreiben, komme ich diesem Wunsch nun nach. Ich kann diese Praxis leider nicht empfehlen. Ich habe die Praxis aufgrund der vielen guten Bewertungen gewählt um eine abgebrochene Krone im Urlaub behandeln zu lassen. Alles machte auf mich einen modernen und professionellen Eindruck, Rückblickend muss ich jedoch leider feststellen, dass die Behandlung überhaupt nicht professionell war. Motivation dieser Praxis ist das Geldverdienen und nicht die Zahngesundheit der Patienten. Frau Novais suggerierte mir, der zerstörte Zahn habe umliegende Zähne mit Karies infiziert, was als dringender Notfall behandelt werden müsse. Bedauerlicher Weise willigte ich ein auf der Seite des kaputten Zahnes, an den dringlichsten Stellen, eine Füllung vornehmen zu lassen. Wie mir durch die Sprechstundenhilfe hinterher mitgeteilt wurde, bohrte Frau Novais einfach mal alle Backenzähne (6 an der Zahl) auf der entsprechenden Mundseite auf. Da ich während der Behandlung teilweise betäubt wurde, merkte ich nicht genau wie viele Zähne behandelt wurden. Außerdem empfahl sie mir morgen wieder zu kommen um die andere Seite zu behandeln, auf der sie noch 7 Zähne dringend behandeln lassen würde. Ich war außer mir vor Wut und brach die Behandlung ab. Wie ich durch meine behandelnde Zahnärztin in Deutschland erfuhr, habe ich keinerlei Karies an diese besagten 7 Zähnen. Es waren lediglich ganz normale Zahnverfärbungen, die sich ganz einfach durch eine Zahnreinigung entfernen ließen. Die Vermutung liegt nahe, dass man mir gesunde Zähne aufgebohrt und ohne Grund alte Füllungen ausgetauscht hat. Zwar habe ich einen Stiftzahn bekommen, diese wurde aber (trotz Labor Anfertigung) nicht ordentlich eingesetzt. Frau Novais schliff meine Krone ab. Dies verhinderte leider nicht den unangenehm Schmerz beim Essen, sieht aber aufgrund der dunklen Stiftfarbe unschön aus. Die aufgebohrten Zähne sind seither sehr empfindlich und haben noch Wochen nach der Behandlung geschmerzt. Ich werde definitiv nie wieder einen Fuß in diese Praxis setzen und hoffe ich kann mit dieser Bewertung andere Patienten vor einer solchen Erfahrung bewahren.

She was very nice and did a good job so I started taking care of everything I needed at her place. So far I had deep cleaning, lots of cavity fillings and a sinus lift operation. The staff is very nice and as I fear dentist they are very gentle, considerate and understanding. I was lucky to find her and highly recommend her.

Com relação aos dentistas, tive o privilégio de fazer a limpeza com a Dra Iara, que foi super gentil, bem humorada e cativante; avaliação sobre DTM com a Dra Marcela, que foi uma experiência calma, relaxante e confortável; e a obturação/ restauração com a Dra Marta, que fez um trabalho impecável, com muito profissionalismo, além de ser uma pessoa rica de conhecimento. She managed to organize everything and make the times and days coincide so that I could meet with the dental professionals and carry out the necessary procedures. Regarding dentists, I had the privilege of having my teeth cleaned by Dr. Iara, who was super kind, good-humored and captivating; assessment on TMD with Dr Marcela, which was a calm, relaxing and comfortable experience; and the filling/restoration with Dr Marta, who did an impeccable job, with great professionalism, in addition to being a person with a wealth of knowledge. There was also Yev, a very nice, friendly and helpful young man who was always attentive to the team's needs. In short, a great experience.

Then saw Dr Marcella for jaw physio, which was wonderful too. Not forgetting Elena on reception who speaks English well and has a firm understanding of patients needs.
